Past and Custom Projects

Wedding gowns, prom dresses, corsets, oh my!

In addition to tailoring and alterations, we also do custom work. Our experience runs the gamut from theater costumes to one-of-a-kind wedding gowns. We love nothing better than a creative idea and will work with you to make sure your vision is realized.

We’ve also taken something old and turned it into something new and modern. We find it a pleasure (and an adventure in creativity!) to work within the confines of a limited amount of material to create something new.

Bringing the Past into the Future

Before.

These three dresses belonged to the bride’s mother (center), grandmother (left), and great grandmother (right). Needless to say, there was a lot of emotional and familial history in this project.

After.

We used the bride’s mother’s dress to create a party dress for the rehearsal dinner. We reduced the length, tightened the fit along the bodice, and removed the sleeves for an updated, fun, young look.

Extra.

We used the other two dresses to create a set of purses for the bridal party. The fabric from the grandmother’s dress became the body of the purses while the embellishments from the great grandmother’s dress were used to decorate them.

From Vintage to Modern

Before.

This “Victorian” wedding gown was originally made by the bride’s grandmother for her mother’s wedding in the 80s. The bride wanted to keep the spirit of the dress but update it to better fit her style.

After.

We were able to retain the original lacework and top while removing the heavy train and the poofy, dated sleeves. We worked hard to retain the vintage feeling while making it the bride’s own.
